Governing a charity

The Charities Act 2005 requires the Commission to provide the charitable sector with support and assistance in the area of best practice in governance, including the development of model rules and governance models which organisations can then adapt to suit their particular circumstances.

Check our information sheets Your rules and the Charities Act and Helpful tips for writing rules which we've provided to assist organisations preparing to register with us.

You may also wish to view the rules of charities on the Charities Register as they may help you understand what is required to meet the criteria of the Charities Act.  You can do this by searching the Charities Register.
